MarketBar-a restaurant and bar that anchors the Embarcadero side of the Ferry Building-offers a seasonal Mediterranean menu mostly sourced from fresh ingredients sold at the Marketplace and the weekly Farmer's Market. MarketBar is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and also serves breakfast/brunch on Saturdays & Sundays. The wide sidewalk in front of the restaurant is lined with cafe tables where patrons can drink, graze, dine-and be spectators-from one of the most charming and lively vantage points in the city. Owners Doug Biederbeck and Joseph Graham are local restaurateurs, well-known in San Francisco. Doug is known through BIX in historic Jackson Square, his supper club with an international clientele. Together, Doug and Joseph have Florio, a French/Italian bistro on Upper Fillmore. MarketBar's menu ranges widely. From hearty main courses-such as seafood stew, roasted organic chicken, and dry-aged steak on the dinner menu to organic soups, salads and sandwiches at lunch. The cocktail hour at MarketBar buzzes with a special menu for that period with up to 30 different small plates and appetizers. Many patrons make a meal out of that menu. The wine and beverage lists combine local brewers and vintners with European classic wine, most at modest prices.
